The Trace Dining Chair is the result of an exciting collaboration between industrial designer Scott Fitzsimons and Città’s Furniture Design team, David Moreland and Nikolai Sorensen.

The inspiration behind this unique piece originated from a simple line drawing in space. Straight lines have been replaced with gentle curves giving the chair a softer hand-drawn feel. An exercise in reduction, the Trace Chair is a minimal yet comfortable

The name references the subtle curves in the steel legs as it seamlessly traces around the edge of the ply back. The chair showcases clean welds highlighting expert craftsmanship and its distinctive V-shaped legs create a striking silhouette.

The Trace is a design collaboration between Città and acclaimed industrial designer Scott Fitzsimons.

Trace was first launched as a dining chair in 2021 and awarded a Silver Pin at the Best Design Awards. In 2025, the range evolved with the addition of the Trace stool.

The range offers versatility for both residential and commercial environments. Available in three wood finishes: oak, black, and walnut. For added comfort, a black leather seat is also available, or custom upholstery for the dining chair. BIFMA-tested for durability.

Both iterations showcase the signature curved backrest with a minimal, clean aesthetic. Its name references the subtle curves of the steel legs, which seamlessly trace the edge of the ply back. Clean welds highlight expert craftsmanship, while the slim legs create a light presence.

“Trace started as a simple line drawing through space, tracing the line of the legs up and around behind the sitter in one continuous gesture,” says Scott Fitzsimons. “I particularly love how this has manifested in the final design—where the rear legs sweep around the bottom edge of the ply backrest.”

“The inverted V-shape of the legs on the chair is also really lovely, especially how they come together into a single form, lending the design a minimal, clean aesthetic. This is quite different from the four legs on the stool, although it still undeniably shares the same DNA as the chair.”
